Talk by writer Sarah Dunant this Tuesday at 6.15 in ER 201

On Tuesday Oct 7th Sarah Dunant will give an illustrated public lecture, ‘Gettting Under Their Skins: History, Fiction and Art’, at 6.15pm in Elvet Riverside 201. Sarah is a broadcaster, critic and international bestselling author of novels set in the Italian Renaissance. To recreate the past as a living, breathing place she has visited churches, archives, museums and art galleries all over Italy.  Here she tells the story of her discoveries: how the decoding of old paintings alongside the work of modern historians helped her to penetrate hidden worlds inside the Renaissance, finding wonder and drama in ordinary lives and exploring the complexities of politics and religion along with emotion, the senses and the heady appetites of body and soul.

Sarah’s novels include the acclaimed trilogy The Birth of Venus, In the Company of the Courtesan and Sacred Hearts, about women’s lives in Renaissance Italy, and most recently the first volume of a novel about the Borgia family,  Blood and Beauty; she is currently working on the sequel.

This lecture is sponsored by St Cuthbert’s Society, the Dept of English Studies, and the Italian Dept. All are welcome. All postgraduate studies in MLAC are encouraged to attend!
